Why Practice?
What are the benefits of Yoga?
The word yoga may invoke thoughts about flexibility, strength, crazy pretzel poses, physical and mental health and well-being. All of this is part of yoga, but for me, yoga is about cultivating awareness on the yoga mat which teaches me to be more aware as I leave my mat. I don't practice yoga so I can touch my toes (well, sometimes I do!), I practice yoga so I can live my best life. Yoga teaches me to be aware of my patterns of reactivity so I can make conscious choices. It teaches me to be emotionally stable. It teaches me to be present.
I like to think yoga has taught me to be a better wife, a better Mom, an entrepreneur, and a better friend. It has taught me that I am enough. I have learned that teaching yoga is the highest form of yoga practice. No other practice has helped me be accountable for my words and actions. There is no greater feeling than to uplift others. Watching students come to their mat looking drained or anxious only to see them leave their mat in peace and serenity is the epitome of our practice. You show up, I bring the playground, we practice.
